"M'Liss Calzaretta is a force of nature. Her vocal styles brings to mind "honey being poured over gravel"....raw, sweet, rough and very real.
Her depth of song writing has an intimate and deep connection with her listeners. It's like having an instant recollection of having experienced her story in our own lives and it all comes together to feed our spirit.
We remember the pain, the hope and joys of life...and from that memory we experience growth and wisdom.
Born into a musical family, her grandfather played drums behind the likes of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. M’Liss was raised in New England and New Orleans. And, as different as gumbo is from clam chowder, so too are the influences that have shaped her talents. But, in the blending of two very different and unique tastes comes the essence of M'Liss' music... intelligent, soulful and magical" (Laney Goodman, Women in Music).
As a seasoned performer M'Liss has captured well-earned kudos from critics and the public alike. She was selected as one of the 200 local acts to appear at the prestigious 2004 French quarter Festival in New Orleans. In 2003 M’Liss was featured in the invitation only Singer Songwriter Showcase produced by Jay Fallo at the New Orleans House of Blues’ Parish Room, and played at the Spotted Cat in New Orleans.
Other high profile gigs include playing to full houses at Nightstage and the Middle East and to a sold out crowd in 2003 at the Original House of Blues, all in Cambridge, MA.
She has appeared on the acclaimed Women in Music show on WERS IN Boston, and was selected as a featured artist for a compilation CD of New England singers and songwriters, Sounds of New England, Vol. l, which brought her national and international exposure.
M’Liss’ credentials include opening for Roseanne Cash, Dave Mason, Indigo Girls and Tracy Chapman. She has also toured extensively both nationally and internationally in Amsterdam, Paris and Montreal, winning over audiences as a solo artist in intimate clubs and wowing large outdoor festival crowds with her full band.
M'Liss ' albums releases include Dodging Demons, Fool's Walk and Shadows and Split Aparts showcasing her urban/roots and singer/songwriter styles with a touch of southern rock and Cajun roots.
